Thanks everyone for your input. Wrasseman, I have sent you an email.

If I go with more docile eels (snowflake, zebra, fire coral eel if it is passive), how many small eels can go in a 180? I konw they make a lot of waste but I like to do 40 - 50 gallon water changes bi weekly.

Jarrett, that's a gorgeous eel. I have looked at pictures of eels and I just love the Tessalatta eels. I'm think I am going to get the two small ones and either leave them alone in the tank or add 1 nice fish.

Can I assume you do not use a feeding stick?

If I just have the two eels in my tank, do I still need to use a stick? Is there a chance the eels will go after each other?

Another question for those of you with eels, do you add anything on top of your tank to keep the eels from jumping out? I have glass tops on all my tanks, would I need to put anything on top of them to keep the eels from jumping out?

For some of the bigger Eels you need to place a weight on top of the glass, otherwise the Eel can push the glass off an escape. The only good thing is that it take some time for an Eel to dry up and die, as opposed to a fish.

It's very risk to mix Eels together, especially large or very aggressive Eels. Some of the less aggressive Eels get along just fine, even staying together, while others, more aggressive Eels, will fight to the point where one Eel may kill and eat the other. The size of the tank also can be a problem, and even though a 150 or 180 is big for a reef tank it's small for a FO or FOWLR tank.

I feed my by hand, I use 3" butterfish. Its like a snake eating a mouse. I used to have two 6' green morey ells together in a 300gal, stick with the tes eel and just feed him when he's hungry and you could put anyfish you want in the tank, if you forget its jaws on the poor fish.maybe I will post a You tube of my eel eating tonight. I wll let you know.

I checked saltwaterfish.com, and they have them for just about half the price of liveaquaria. So basically it's 2 for the price of 1. I think I'll get both, and if it gets out of hand I'll remove one. And if they both get too big, I'll donate one. I'm excited about my eel tank.

My Eel

He Is About 4' LONG AND 3'' THICK. SEE THE GROUPER IN 2ND PHOTO, HE EAT HIM. THE ONLY THING THAT SUCK ABOUT THIS EEL IS THAT THAY DONT GET MUCH LONGER THAN 4' (MY TANK IS 9' LONG)

Your eel is gorgeous. That's what I'm looking for. I would just like to have 2 eels in tank if possible.

I saw a picture today of a brazilian horned eel and like it almost as much as the tessalatta. Since they are more docile, they'd be easier to have 2 or 3 eels in the tank.

Can a brazilian co-exist with white mouth or yellow margin eel?
