Always wondered is it possible to keep some of the larger angels or tangs and have them successfully spawn/reproduce while in captive? If so has anyone had success in doing so? I've only heard of some of the smaller fish like clownfish doing so while in captive.

I know of no successful Tang spawnings in captivity. Smaller Centropyge (pygmy) and Genicanthus angels do spawn under the right conditions. A few of the pygmy species have been commercially bred and sell/sold for big $$$$ due to the labor intensive nature of the effort. Sanjay's bellus and joculator angels spawn regularly in his tank ( there is a video around here somewhere). The only large angel that is commercially available that I know of is the Maculosus that is being captive bred in Taiwan.

The short of it is that due to a combination of economics and limited knowledge/ ability, outside of Clownfish, Dottybacks, a variety of gobies, seahorses and a few others, there is not a lot available to the hobbyist.
