I had ich in my 55g tank about 4 months ago to which my hippo was the only fish who caught it. It soon dissapeared so I didn't worry about it.

I just upgraded to a 75 gallon on saturday, and 2 days later my powder blue got ich, and it went away in a day, now my hippo appeared to have ich. The Hippo also had a dark mark under his eye, and now all the white dots have gone black on his skin. His activities are normal and he is eating well. I have used garlic extreme the last 2 days, and I bought nosickfish for marine ich. I didn't put it in yet because the powder blue recovered and it was expensive.. should I

A put nosickfish in
B. Freshwater dip
C. Leave him alone and do waterchanges
D. All of the above
E. Just end it and do a nose dive off of my rooftop..

What should I do? PLEASE EMAIL ME AT [email protected] or PM!!! here are some pics... :irked:

It appears the fish has HLLE. My Tang also has it, but I haven't been able to cure it. There's many different theories on the causes, and cures for it (search the web), but I have not been successful with any of them.

I've used garlic to soak mysis cubes before and worked for me with on my hippo. I also used fresh roman lettuce along w/ seaweed sheets to fatten him up. I think as long as you keep him eating he should be able to fight it off.

Modern science has shown that garlic is a powerful antibiotic
so maybe that is what garlic acts like for fish as well.

A. Not sure, but I haven't heard great reports about copper free medicines
B. NO!!!
C. Yes, 10% weekly
D. Nope
E. if there's a deep enough pool down there, sure, sounds fun.

Keep with the garlic, it is used to help immunity so its not a quick process.First it has to be metabolized and then help the immune system and then the immune system has to fight back.

I doubt its HLLE, that appears with holes around the gill slits, and the lateral line, which is in the upper portion of the fish's main body, you can probably see it if you have a good eye. It is really easy to spot in a yellow tang in bright light. But anyway it wouldn't be in random spots like your hippo. I would place my bet on another type of external infection, like black ich. Also you may want to look into buying selcon, a good, nutritious diet is good for the immunity and overall health of your fish. What do you feed him?All tangs need plenty of veggies.

Take the Nosickfish and either return it or put it directly into the garbage.

Those spots are not black ich, they are too large. Black ich is about the size of ground pepper.

I see you just changed tanks, so it may be a response to stress. You want to get the Selcon and soak the food in it and do provide a proper diet for the fish including veggies (Nori, romain lettuce) as well as whatever your fish like best to eat. (assuming mysis shrimp..as you won't be able to soak nori, romain or pellets or flake..) The garlic is always a good addition though I'll never understand why fish like it so much...lol

Did you add any new rock when you did your upgrade?
Keep a close eye on all of your water parameters (Ammonia, Nitrite, Ca, Alk, Mg. Sg & temp)
If possible I'd do a 5 or 10% water change every few days to improve the quality of your water. Be sure to match salinity & temp when adding the new water!

JDubbs I had the same experience with my Hippo a while back. He was the only one to attract Ich in my new system. I started feeding him Thera-A Anti-Parasitic pellets from NLS. I also fed Brine Shrimp soaked in Selcon , Zoes and Garlic. So far so good. Perhaps this might work for you.

Thanks guys for all the help! I'm feeding him mysis and veggie flakes soaked in garlic and he can't get enough. He is looking a tad better, and I'm going to return the no sick fish... Can I get some more info on the selcon?
