ever see finding nemo?

Yellow tangs are known to be a little nuts... Mine is in a 125 long and swims back and forth very fast. He also attacks the glass with his tail.

I would put him in a bigger tank unless he is really small. Like under 2 or 3" long...

I've heard of them doing this, it's not used to being in a tank yet, He's used to being able to swim as far as he wanted. And he's also probably stressed. Give it time, and find it a bigger home, 40 gallons is way to small.
