Before I got my moonlight my clown used to sleep very high in the tank almost by the water line and at times you could hear him splashing around ... I figured due to no light he must be scared but I myself was scared thinking the splashing was him trying to jump out (which he did 1x already but due to my green water incident)

ANyway now that things are great, and my moonlights are in everything has been fine until last night when the moonlights turned off he was at it again swimming all over the tank and splashing at the water line until i put the moonlight back on at 4am and he settled in within the hour :irked: ....

Anyone have any ideas whats up?

My clowns do the same. When it gets completely dark for awhile, they go into deep sleep or something and they just swim into things.

Having moonlight is normal for fish in the wild, and it aids them in seeing predators while they are resting. Some fish like wrasses compensate for this by sleeping under the sand for safety, other fish build coccoons that they sleep inside of so other fish can't detect their scent (so 'they' say).
Some sleep in caves and many others... like your fish just sleep out in the water...thiugh most fish do usually find a niche in a tank to call 'home'.

Clearly your guy is more comfortable with the moonlight on..

Sounds like he feels much safer with the moonlight on as he sees no predators while it's on. It's probably costing you a whopping 50 cents a month to run it..so why not? :)

Isn't he/she hosting anything in your tank?...usually clowns sleep within thier hosts for safety.

my clowns used to sleep upper corner of the tank at night swimming, now that i have moonlights they swim in front all night or hang near the candy cane coral. they look more at ease with the moonlight i think theyre afraid of the dark lol

My clown doesn't host to anything since I don't have anything it can host to lol... it usually stays the bottom right corner and slaps around the sand bed with its tail, its kinda funny ...

Anyway my moonlights go off because i try to replicate the natural light cycle, i mean the moon doesn't shine into the wee hours of the morning does it ...

Apparently your clown doesn't think so Chris..haven't you ever stayed up all night and noticed that the moon does too? Often it is very visible until sunup. I'd leave 'em on if he's that much less stressed..and get him something to host :)
..so that green tank you had going was replicating what? Mars? lol sorry had to
