How many clownfish can you have in an aquarium?

I have been trying to find more information on this here on MR, but it's been eluding me.

In my 75G, I currently have 2 A. ocellaris clownfish, and I'm wondering if I can add any more clownfish to the tank.

Does anyone have any experience with having more than 1 pair of clownfish of the same type (or different species) in a tank?

Is it possible for me to add a couple more (maybe 4) in the tank? I'm thinking more A. ocellaris, but should I add a different species?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Was there any animosity between the individuals when you added them in? What other livestock do you have in your tank?

Also, how did you come about with adding the 8 into the tank?

There was no fighting among the percs and they all seem to get along just fine. I had 4 of them and then when I upgraded my tank I decided to get 4 more since there one of my favorite fish. I also have 4 hippo tangs and 3 yellow tangs in the tank. I have some bad pics in my gallery lol

I have a pair of orange and a pair of black/white ocellaris in my 120. The orange pair were added first, and now host in a hammer coral. When I added the black/white pair, they kept trying to go towards the hammer, but the orange female would chase them to another side of the tank.

Right now, everything is peaceful - during feeding time, everybody is swimming around quite happy. Of course, YMMV.

I have 3 in a 125, and they fight... not bad, but whoever makes it to the anemone first after a feeding doesn't let any other near it.


I have other anemones... but they all want that one...

I have a few blue chromis and 4 sabe clowns also. I'm not a 100% on the spelling of the fish. I must add that the tangs are small and it is a large tank so fish police get off my back lol.

I have a pair of picassos and a pair of black aussies in a 29g cube. I added the picassos second and kept them in a critter cage in the tank for about three weeks before I let them out. All is well in the tank.

theres is good good chance the new clown you add will be attacked by the other 2, you should have added them all at once:biggrin:

Its really at your own risk. Anytime you add clowns always expect the worst.. So be prepared to have to take them back out of the tank. Because they will kill each other if they dont get along. Or they will just swim peacefully. Its always at your own risk. But to be fair to the fish have a plan to be able to give him a good home if he will not go in your tank.
