I have been in this hobby for 20 years, and my wife never bought anything for my tanks. Right after reading Spitzer spent $4,000.- a night with a mermaid, she bought 5 Evansi Anthias last Friday for my 210 Gallon reef tank to keep me busy.

The fish are gorgeous and look healthy, but they don?t eat. I have tried mysis shrimp and brine shrimp.

Any advice?

James, just give them a few days they may not eat immediately but if they are healthy they will start to join the others during feeding time. Just keep up with the live brine for now and throw in some cyclopeeze as well. They are planktonic feeders so small free floating food items should elicit a response eventually.

I would continually try cyclopeeze and FROZEN Mysis shrimp. I do not think anthias eat anything else other than that IMO

as long as your water quality is good, mature rock work to pick off of, and the fish are healthy I wouldn't worry about them eating until about 5 days straight i haven't fed my fish in 28 days with no ill affects like aggression or "top model" fish(skinny).. They have been eating off the rocks, pods, and sponges for my filefish..

anthias feed out of the water column. Haven't ever seen one picking off the rocks. Once established they will eat almost anything offered but to get them feeding initially cyclopeeze and mysis and maybe some live brine should be used.

Thank you for the information and assistance, and I have tried all of your suggested methods without success so far.

I have been keeping quite a few other species of Anthias such as "Bartlett", "Square", "Thread Fin" in my other 175 gallon tank from the same water system without problem. The species which I am having problem with is "Evansi" which I was told very difficult to keep.

Has anyone kept "Evansi" for more than 3 months?
