I've seen a whole lot of them in person the last month, maybe 20 or so :)

no I did not buy one, they are pretty looking but I'm with marone on this, that's a lot of money for a fish.

OMG ignore the eggcrate!!!! ;) JK nick

Why do you say they wont make it. They are one of the hardier angels around. Live aquaria (Diver's Den) takes great care of the fish and you get really healthy fish that are eating well. The risk is a lot less.

As for the pile of money.. to each his own. I can't even understand the per inch or per polyp price of frags, yet people pay it. :) or several thousands for a skimmer ( a bunch of plastic with lots of un proven claims) !!

I agree with you Live Aquaria is great and takes care of there stuff. I also agree on them being hardy but that risk is always there. But I guess whether somebody buys lots of difficult to keep smaller fish that are 150.00 each or 1 huge expensive fish it's kinda the same. I also can't say tell anybody that if I had a large enought tank that I would aspire (or ever use a dreaded credit card) to get one! AND YES YES YES frags are REALLY expensive

This comes down to the issue of people having to have a fish just because it's rare and not if they like it or not, and for some people money isn't an issue and I'm sure the Clarion Angel, on LA, will be sold soon. The same can be said for corals, everyone wants to hot or rare coral and usually pays through the nose to get it, whether it's a great coral or not. What's worst is that there could be something a lot better and for a lot of cheaper. You have to ask yourself if this fish wasn't rare and was regular available would people choose it over other Angels.

As for Skimmers, well everyone is looking for something better to help fix problems they may have in their tanks. If a couple hundred, or even a thousand dollars, fixes the problem most people think it's worth it, usually it's not but some times it does make a difference.

I don't know whats really crazy paying $1000 for a fish or $5

Think about all that goes into getting a fish transporting it and taking care of it. If it was done properly I doubt you'd find a lot of fish for under $20. most would be $100 and up.

Gresh, 80 Clarions! that's 120K wholesale and up to 400K in retail value in fish depending where they ended up being sold

actually live aquaria's prices are a good deal if you want a clairion angel, in Japan they are paying almost double that.

Sean I like your point.

It's any not different than any other product being ship in. Every company looks to do it as cheap as possible and do except losses, even on high price items. And lets not forget the largest markup is on the retail side.

the difference being we are dealing with live animals that
1) we owe the best possible conditions to and have a responsibility to care for, when I say we I mean starting at the collectors all the way through to the end buyer.
2) Are an unknown from a longevity standpoint and health standpoint. We are only making our best guess on the condition of the animals we purchase ( I understand that we evaluate them based on a number of factors and experience we have but there is still a big risk with the $5.00 risk and the $3500.00 fish.

Again I think if I could I would in the case of the Clarion!

they are not endangered, but there was a ban on collecting them.

and to collect these a special permit was given by the Mexican government. Gresham or Joe would be able to tell you more details.
