The zebra eel is report to be a "REEF SAVE" eel! I would not put an eel in a reef regardless of the "reef save" attributes.
You have to remember that they will dig, and possibly bring down your aquascape. Also as it has already be stated they will eat shrimps, crabs, and anything else that will fit in their mouths.

All of this is true and they also put a big load on your tank. They eat and produce a lot of waste, not to mention they do throw up from time to time.

The only 2 eels that are you should consider for a reef tank is the G. melatremus-the dwarf golden moray and the Ribbon Eel. Both are small, so they wouldn't do much damage moving around the tank and don't produce as much waste as some of the larger eels. You do need to make sure you don't have corals that sting since eels hang out in the rocks they're very susceptible to getting stings to the face, mouth and body. These stings can turn into infection that can kill the eel.

There is a Dwarf moray but reef safe i dont know many eels they dont eat corals usually but they are like snails they knock over stuff in there way esspecially since they wedge into rocks you can run into a problem with aquascape falling ang your fish crushed or glass cracking

In my 180 i have a black ribbon eel and a blue ribbon eel. They dont knock over anything and are model citizens but on the flip side they require extra TLC and getting them to eat is pretty hard to do. I also have 2 snowflakes and there definitely knock things over and will snatch crabs and shrimp.
In my 30 cube i have 3 dwarf golden morays and they are prefect. They seem to leave crabs and suck alone and they atay small.
