Sand tray for wrasses

Hi all,

I'm thinking of buying a wrasse (not sure exactly which kind yet - I love the Splendid Leopard that NYAquatic has now) but I know alot of the really beautiful ones need a fine sand substrate to burrow in. As mine is rocky I'm wondering if anyone has used the method of the tray filled with fine sand? Does it work well?

it would get blown out, and the leopard wrasse is a hard wrasse to keep need a really established tank for it, fairy wrasse's dont need sand

how rocky? it doesn't have to be super fine but normal arg sand will be fine. The only thing is the more coarse the sand is the more wear you will see on the colors on the fish around the face area.

sand trays won;t help. its gonna dive where it wants to.

It's pretty rock unfortunately - crushed coral and shells etc. That's a no go I suppose

crushed coral and shells? No, that is a no go for those sand burrowing wrasses.
