Fish for my 90 Gallon Reef Tank

I am planning for my 90 Gallon Reef tank and thinking about the fish I would like. I am trying to keep a peaceful community of fish that is 'hardy' and less likely to get a disease (although all fish will be QTd). I did include a hippo tang, which I know can get ICH easily..

Here is what I am thinking. Please advise if this would be a good setup or if I should make changes. Also please advise if any fish should go in first, last..etc..

I have been going back and forth on that since I had one in my 55 that died, although I did not have a QT then. Any other fish with a nice blue color that would fit in?

I also had problems with Hippos in the beginning, but as my tanks aged, I have been able to keep them. In my opinion I would stay away from the Hippo for a while. Also the six line might turn out to be a terror, mine has, but for other hobbiest they have turned out to be good citizens.

BTW, the rest of the fish are KOOL...

I have a hippo in my 90.Doing well,no ich,to each it's own I guess and I have terrible luck with tangs.Try to get a larger hippo like 4" plus.

What are good hardy fish can you recommend that are reef safe and would a nice color to the above list?

any wrasse's. are you going bare bottom ? chalk bass in a group are nice also, more of a lighter blue though

Planning on having a sand substrate...cool looking up the bass now..seems to be a good hardy choice.

I agree. I personally like wrasses as well. Great fish overall... reef safe ones that is

Forget the strawberry dotty back and six line wrasse - there are so many more nice fish with more welcoming personalities

The flame hawk is a nice ref fish although prone to eating crabs and shrimp unless already established and LARGE.

Hippo should do fine as long as it's a little larger than what's being wild caught and sold locally (quarter sized ones) - they tend to get stressed easily and die from ich.

Since you're going to be doing an SPS reef, I'd steer away from clowns - they tend to have a harder time with hard currents - although, they can sometimes do fine if there are some dead spots to take a breather in.

I say a few nice and different wrasses (less likely to jump)
Algae blenny
Something in the substrate (gobie-ish or with pistol)
some community like fish (cardinals are nice) or anthias or chromis (blues)
A nice tang or two (tomimi or the like - perhaps chevron or something nice like that)

All i can think of for now. Enjoy fish shopping.

love the chevron tang. probably my fav. deffinately something for the sand gobies ect. get a cucumber also. and basically as jim said. id preffer a school of chalk bass though

Be careful with bangai's, wild caught ones are known to just die for seemingly no reason,also there very slow moving fish and the current would be an issue like the clowns.

My cousin had a hippo that went through things I didn't think a rock could go through in a much smaller tank then yours so that IMO is a good choice.

Watch out for jumping wrasses.

I would personally not get a hawk because I love shrimp so much but it's up to you.
