So i've had a frogspawn in my tank for about a couple months now. At first it didn't open up too much due to the flow, it was placed close to the middle of the tank far away from where the clowns usually swim around. Then i moved it to another location in hopes that it would open up. Finally, i found a spot that had enough flow so that it would open up, but not too much so that it would close. That location was right next to where the clowns usually roam around. It's been about a couple weeks since the frogspawn has been in that location, and the clowns never really got close to it. Now today, i was in front of the tank looking at the time the T5s went off, and just the actinics remained. Then i saw something i've never seen. One of the clowns got really close to the frogspawn, he didn't touch it, but was roaming on top and around of the frogspawn, i would say about an inch or so. He's been doing that for a while now, even when the Actinics went off. Does that mean he will be hosting the frogspawn soon?
I guess i want to know what kind of "rituals" clownfish have before they host a coral, or what kind of behavior they display before hosting it.?

I did some research for this, and i really didn't find too much information on it, so i'm coming to you guys hoping to find an answer, and hoping that the clown will finally host the Frogspawn!

clowns sometimes rub themselves on the undersides of anemones or corals to coat themselves with a chemical that the coral exudes so they dont get stung as the coral thinks its touching itself not the fish. My clowns hosted in my frogspawns before they moved into cathys luxury RBTA.

Great information for our noobs Aaron!
And as far as your clowns go..after your clowns moved in they did first try hosting my tiny frogspawn (felt like home I guess :) )..then they tried a torch, next moved onto some red tonga mushrooms..and finally they found the RBTA. Considering that it's 8" across now..and in a 33g tank, I'd of thought they would have stumbled across it sooner..lol
Both the RBTA & Clown pair are loving the relationship now!! :)

So Oriol...they'll go where they want and stick with whatever they find the most cozy.

And yeah Bob, I'd sure like to see pics of them hosting the algae, but doubt Steven wants to shown us that...lol Sounds like those 70+ days of OT he worked took a toll on his tank! Looking forward to the pics when he turns it back around:biggrin:

Thanks for all the information up till now everyone. I understand that every situation is different, but I wasn't sure if the clowns had something in common before hosting a coral. I did read that if after a month they did not host the coral, they probably wouldn't host it, so im not sure if the frogspawn is just in is way or he's trying to host it. I guess time will tell.
