Hi,

New to saltwater and my kole tang as a minor case of ich just wondering if I can run hypo in my display (small apartment and dont have room for a QT) if I have liverock or will that create dieoff and cause an ammonia spike or can the bacteria on the rocks stay alive at 1.009? Thanks for your comments.

not really, atleast for a long enough time to do a proper treatment, should I take the LR out?

You may wish to try a freshwater dip in a small container. I just did this for 10 minutes with one of my fish with excellent results. Just make sure the freshwater temp & PH matches that of you tank water.

yes, I would go out & buy Amquel for the spike, follow the instructions on going Hypo. watch temp & Ph. bacteria will survive everything else will die & create a spike. you will notice cloudy water. good luck.

another plus is I was able to buy all the other fish I wanted & have the biggest QT I ever had....LOL:bagfish:
save as much inverts as you can. crabs lasted 4 weeks, but i went the distance with 8 weeks.

I would say the FW dip is the why to go as well...Why would you want to
put your tank at risk? You can buy an 18 gallon rubbermaid for around 5 bucks
and use a HOB filter(I'm sure you have at least 1 already) for 2 or 3 days

Fresh water dips and baths don't do anything for ich, outside of maybe some of the spores on the surface falling off. The ich that is inside the fish and attached deep on the skin of the fish, gills amd eyes will not be killed. Also don't be fooled by the fish all of a sudden looking good, that just because the spores on the skin have fallen off, the ich is still in the body and it can take 7 - 12 days for it to work it's way through the fish.

You need to remove the fish and treat it in a separate tank with either copper or Hypo. You then need to leave the main tank empty of fish for about 4 - 8 weeks.

If you plan on doing Hypo in the main tank you should remove your LR and any inverts, as they'll die from it. Also make sure you have ich as Hypo doesn't work on other parasite. And you need to acturite, so make sure you have a refactor.
