Hello Reef Members,

Or is it HELP MANHATTAN REEFS! I have a poor little Blue Throat Trigger, about four to five inches in total length who I suspect has gone blind. I have him for four months now and noticed him acting strange for the last three days. He has chosen to remain at the bottom left front corner in my 90 and only swims elsewhere when he knows I?m feeding. The reason why I say he must be blind is because when he does choose to take a swim he is very cautious and eventually ends up bumping the side walls. There is nothing visibly wrong with him and I only am assuming at thing point, but I was never able to approach them when I hand feed them and yesterday I finally got him to eat like this. I literally had to go to the bottom of the tank and put it on his mouth! I got him completely normal and now look! He can?t SEE! Do you guys think it?s something else? What should I do in either instance? Everyone else is acting normal.
I just picked up a 20H from NanoReefer earlier this week, I might have to set it up for him instead of the Frag Tank I originally planned. I guess he?ll be in there until he can see or gets better. He won?t be needing much swimming space at the rate he?s going. HELP HELP HELP. PLEASE!!!

jhale had a blind copperband thread look for that but in the meantime is there any clouding over his eyes? Do his eyes look abnormal? Can you take some pics?

I've seen Jhale's CopperBand, you're right. I'll check his thread. I can't tell you whether they are cloudy or not as of right now, but I will check again when I get home. Maybe I can get a close up of his eyes with my digital as well. But why all of the sudden? It's the weirdest thing. I can't think of anything else that would cause him to bump into walls and allow me to literally touch him. Like I said, he's swimming well and nothing else appears to be wrong with him physically. If he's not blind then what?

I just called home and got word that his eye's are a bit cloudy. Now that I come to think of it, this fish has had awkward looking pupils from day one. I didn't think it was a problem but looking at other Blue Throats I've found mine to appear different. It may have gotten worse over time, but he was quite active and always eating. What do I do?

I have a Naso tang that went blind on me for about 2 weeks and now he is perfectly fine. All I did was make sure he would eat. Just make sure he is eating and leave him alone in my opinion where he is now. This was my thread... http://www.manhattanreefs.com/forum/fish/29646-can-anyone-explain.html
Thanks man, I had to hand feed him yesterday and will again tonight. I just feel bad for him. He looks better now. I just stepped out the house but from what he looked like yesterday he seems to be responding a bit better. He was swimming around a bit more and actually was on the other side of the tank and went in and out of the rock work. Guys I'm sorry about the pic's, I'll get to them if I ever get home early enough. I work and go to school during the week. (Thomas here not Kenny).

Hi Thomas, sorry to hear. Please do try and post a pic. Pics are very important in trying to diagnose your fish's problem. In the mean time please check all your water parameters, and do stay on top of excellent water quality. Triggers are relentless swimmers, so to read that your bt is not moving much is enough to worry.

I have attached every picture I could have possibly taken. He was laying on his side as you can see in the first picture. This is what I mean by odd. He finally has decided to swim around now and isn't bumping into the glass anymore. He is still a little weak if you ask me. I will try hand feeding him again tomorrow, problem now is that he can actually see me coming and will swim away, lol...So my concern now is not whether he can see but if he will eat, because he's not eating by himself. I will let you guys know what happens tomorrow.

Thomas, what are you feeding? Are you soaking in vitamins & garlic? I love your fishe mixture. And it looks like you have a very nice tank from the little I could see.;) Please do keep us posted. It is a good sign that he is swimming around as he should be..
