I have a large Naso Tang for a while now. I got him from Michael(NYAQUATICS). From day one he is great. Eats like a champ, my prized fish...

About two weeks ago he went blind, could not see a thing and when I put food, flakes, Nori, etc in the tank he could not find it. I hand fed him during this period and was worried. I tried to research online and came up with nada. Now he is perfectly fine, all back to normal.

Has this ever happen to anyone? and can it happen again?

When I would put food in the tank, he would not now where it was. I would then take nori in my hand and put it in front of his mouth and he would take it. I would put my hand around his eyes and almost touch them and he did not know that my hand was even there. All the other fish in the tank were all fine. Just weired...

Another thing is that during this period of two weeks he was very skittish. Understand this! This fish allows me to actually take him out of the tank a little with my hands and is not afraid, so when this happened I was very upset because I did not want to loose him. He was one of my first fish I bought from Micheal and I really really like him ALOT. He went through a very bad Ick problem in the beginning stages when I got him and made it. In addition he had jumped out of the tank at one point and was on the floor for about 1 hour before I notice, so he has been through hell and back and is a true survivor.

Ich can attack and damage the eyes. It's very possible they were injured when he got ich.

Also it's not a good thing to handle fish, especially ones with switch blades on their tails, it's an accident waiting to happen. Also some tangs carry poison in their spikes.

Maybe your right about the Ick. It has been about 8 months now since he had Ick and all of a sudden he went blind and now he is perfectly fine and no one else in the tank got affected by any of this.

I know guys about the handling of fish. It is just that he is so friendly and I get attached. Thanks for the help...

reefman I thought the same, however it was not so. I have sharks and stingrays and when I put food in the tank they go crazy by the smell and pinpoint it. My tang would go around the tank missing everything unless I place it right at his mouth.

BTW my sharks and stingrays are in there own tank, not with the fish, I don't want anyone thinking that they are in with the reef fish. I have a seperate shark tank.
