Kind of slow this week, so I thought I'd post another "guess this fish". And no, it isn't a scat, and Matt, sit on your hands.....

Jay, is this guy part of your collection? Is this for a biotope exhibit of that region? I remember you got a deepwater b'fly from there recently too...

Matt,

Yes, its for one of our exhibits from that region. We also have the striped species - I may have posted a picture of that one here as well.

The modestus butterfly came in with the same shipment, but it had Neobendenia. After we took care of that problem, it still wouldn't eat. We tried all the tricks. I was literally preparing the tube-feeding equipment to use on it when one of my aquarists came to tell me it just started feeding on mysids on its own....I must have scared it when I started mixing up the MS-222 (grin).

Here is the butterfly:

That's Oplegnathus punctatus, spotted knifejaw fish.
A real pet in at home, but will out grow most tanks.

Interesting about the butterfly, so you'd put him to sleep and then tube feed it?

Cheers.

Yes,

That's what my staff said when the saw the three that I bought - "You paid HOW much for those? They look like green scats!".
