I addded one of these little guys to my tank about 10 days ago. He went into the rocks when I added him and I still haven't seen him yet. I noticed a few of the fish went after him a bit when I first put him in. Is this typical of this fish or do you think he might be long gone?

Probably hiding behind the rockwork. That's not unusual for newly introduced YWG, I had one that I would see about 10x's a year.

Food gets behind there, trust me. Also the fish will get some food by sifting throgh the sand. You might want to check your overflow box and/or sump, mine tried escaping once and found him in the sump.

UPDATE:

The other night I was performing a monthly routine cleaning of the pumps in my sump. I had put the pumps back in and was getting ready to turn them on when my wife said "I just saw something move down there". Then she said "there's a fish in the sump". I didn't believe her at all until I looked and sure enough there was a fish in there!! I have to admit I was completely confused and actually had thought that it was some kind of fish that grew there on its own??? :? But then after closer review realized that it was the watchman goby. :D 8O He was completely white and grey and very skinny. He looked almost like some crazy fish from the abyss. 8O Anyway, I gave him some mysis shrimp which gobbled up and then put him in a quarantine tank where he has been for a week now. I added some rocks for him to hide. He is eating well and swimming around now. Very happy. Still a little shook up though. I guess he jumped into the overflow box the night I added him to the tank. If it wasn't for my wife he would have probably stayed in the sump for ever, in the dark. Amazing story.

Anyway, I'm adding a new post to help get some ideas on how to cover the tank for him.

Once in a while I do know what I'm talking about :P

Seriously, congrats on finding it. With a good diet it will be good to go in no time. Now the question is will it go back in the main tank?

Good question. Not sure, he obviously didn't want to stay in there. I am thinking about adding a top to the tank so he can't jump out. I know that I do have one fish in there that seems to be somewhat aggressive. Might have pushed him to jump.

What kind of fish? If you do add the YWG back in the tank try and do it about an hr or so after lights out, I've fooled my share of aggressive fish that way when introducing new shy tankmates. I must admit I tried to fool a hawkfish a couple of times and it didn't work... at all. He had to go. :D

Ok. I'll try to add him in the night. I think that he is getting ready to go back into the main tank. What do you think about digging a hole/cave out under one of the larger rocks. Then I was thinking of puting hin in some type of glass jar and wedjing it against the cave so that he is forced to swim right into his new home. Do you thin this might work?
