I am wondering if there is any information available on the captive life spans of cirrhilabrus and parainchelinus species?

So many are so beautiful, but also a bit pricey.

Are they "easy" as so many references state, or do they have any special demands?

Are there any special considerations to bear in mind when attempting to mix different species in a single aquarium?

Thanks,
Candy

Hi Candy,

They live quite long from what I've gathered. The longest I personally know is ~10 years, but I'm sure they can exceed 20+. Fairy wrasses are very robust and eat like pigs. That feed them often and don't forgot that they're jumpers, and you should be in good shape. Flasher wrasses are more fragile and shy, but they are still a great genus to keep.

People like Tanaka have had success mixing species of the same genus in their tanks, but I personally can never do this without the big male dominating the smaller males (sometimes to the point of death).

i have been able to mix diffrent species in the same tank with out problems...now i have kept some fairy warsses that were alot more aggresive than others...like the whipfin, tonos, red fin, and the finespotted.
i have found those to be very aggresive and did not have much luck putting them in a tank with others...i try to keep diffrent colors and sizes with each other..that seem to help alot...also when i get a new fairy or flasher i put them in a specimen cup for a few days to let the others in the tank get use to him..when i see the new guy able to display when others come up to the cup and and is trying to go after food in the tank i let him go...always at night when the lights are out to give him a good rest...that has always worked for me and others that i have talked to...i have even been able to keep a red margin and lineatus with each other using this method...also i do not know much about life spans but they are jumpers..and i have lost a few ...eggcrate imo will work for sometime but they will get through...i have a mesh top that seem to work just fine..need any more info just ask
