Luzonichthys waitei...who's kept them?

Finally picked up a group of 4 of these yesterday. They're nice! I was surprised how cheap they were. Is anyone else keeping these? They're very shy but already eating Cyclop-eeze.

Awesome. I've never kept them but recently have seen them at the LFS. They're rarely available but surprisingly affordable.

The wholesaler called them "purple chromis" with a price to match.... :roll: :lol:

On some export lists from Philipines they are shown as purple chromis and they are dirt cheap there.

Matt,
I've tried them several times, though not with any long term luck. They seem to require multiple feedings a day, and break down easily, possibly from collection.
I would imagine keeping them with some more docile anthias like dispars would give them a little more courage.
Please keep us updated, as I've always loved these!

Well 2 have already died. Neither of them even bothered to eat, and only made it a couple days. The other 2 are eating, but certainly not aggressively, and they hide the rest of the time. They're in with a firefish. I'm feeding as much as I dare, Cyclop-eeze and live baby brine about 5 or 6 times a day. They won't touch mysids or fish eggs. Keeping my fingers crossed...

Capelin and herring. We feed the whole fish to penguins among other things. Lots of fish relish them, and they hold up very well in saltwater. They do sink pretty quickly though. I think of it as a treat and not a staple of the diet. I haven't done any kind of hardcore research on the nutrition of the eggs yet. I know there are HUFAs and fatty acids in there. If you're trying to get fish to reproduce (our anthias and chromis spawn) I think there are some important implications there for egg quality as well.

Garden eels in particular love them.

Once I carry those back with me from HongKong.
all 10 fishes died within few month, as it accepted only cyclop eeze and some mysis. I don't know the reason, but would like to try it again.
