Yes, these are juvenile to young female forms of Cirrhilabrus cyanopleura.

See attached photos. It is difficult to tell young female from juvenile in most species of Cirrhilabrus.

Here are some males of Cirrhilabrus cyanopleura. A variable species.

I am now preparing a book on Fairies & Flashers, describing all the 57 known spp. in three genera, including the genus Conniella. Now I can provide you with a CD with over 1000 photos, most of them are aquarium shots, and many U/W photos by divers. I am still adding an index of scientific and common names, an exhausting work, that will take a week or so.

A new book arrived.

This is the newest "World Atlas of Marine Fishes" (by Kuiter & Debelius, 2006). It covers 4000 spp. with 7200 color photos, scientific names, size and locality of photography. You can get it from the UK TMC-Publishing and probably at your local pet shops or book stores soon.

It includes almost all the known spp. of the genera with excellent photos.

These are Cirrhilabrus solorensis from Indonesia, a close relative of C. cyanopleura. It is large (lower photo; some 8cm) but still a female coloration with shorter pelvic fins.

The upper one (11cm) shows an extra large female of C. solorensis with longer pelvic fins. Note the blue belly and the red around eye.

C. solorensis has a blue abdomen, and in C. cyanopleura it is white. Eyes are said to be red in C. solorensis but some morphs and juveniles of C. cyanopleura possess red eyes. It is red around eyes of C. solorensis.

Thank you, friends.

Yes, you can keep several species of Cirrhilabrus and Paracheilinus together peacefully. But aboid the male specimens of the same size of the same species; these similar individuals might fight.

The photo shows a juvenile of C. solorensis, 4cm, that is much red overall.

A nice individual.

Here is my specimen, some 8cm long male of C. solorensis. It is green to bright blue in fully-grown males. Note the black band on gill cover that is absent in C. cyanopleura.
