Does anyone currently have one alive in captivity? Or any past experience or pictures of one in captivity. I've always wanted one of these since I began keeping saltwater fish. It looks like LiveAquaria is now offering them for sale.

I know someone who's kept this species for over 5 years. According to him, it's a fairly hardy angel and is easy to feed, but his gets relatively aggressive towards other angels. Most people report they are not aggressive though.

I think that it is hard to keep for a long period, but young and juvenile specimens are fairly easy to maintain and they can reach adult stage.

Many adults from Vietnam are also difficult to keep for more than two months; they usually deny to feed on any foods.

My friend's blueline started as a 3" subadult, so perhaps the key is to get them young.

I got a large adult, 20cm long specimen yesterday. It came from Vietnam, but it has not yet accepted any food.

I've worked with three of these fish - two were tank raised juveniles and one was an adult wild-caught. The adult did not feed, I even tube fed it for a time. The juveniles have been going strong for four years now. I wrote an article on these for TFH, but it isn't out yet. I also have a short section on them in my new book, "Advanced Marine Aquarium Techniques" just released by TFH about two weeks ago. Here is an excerpt from that book:

Blueline Angelfish
This species has long been a very rare fish in home aquariums. Recently, aquaculturists have raised at least one group in captivity; and suddenly a previously unavailable species was being offered by many different wholesalers, at the same time, for a very reasonable price. After that time, this species was again rarely seen. It is possible that this captive rearing event will be repeated, and they will once again be made available in decent numbers. This species is one of the hardier members of this genus. Remember though, that the blue ring angelfish, Pomacanthus annularis has virtually the identical color pattern, but is more commonly available, and normally is much hardier in captivity.
