I change water every couple days in this 10 gallon tank. ALl the water is from my established tank, i have a small wisper filter minus the carbon, a powerhead and a air stone. I recently added filtermedia from my established tank in order to build up bio filter because my nitrates are through the roof and no matter whatI do there up to about 5.0! I did a 100% water change on sunday, but ammonia is zero.

How do I build up my bio filter or do I just change the water every day?

I feed minimally only whats consumed and ammonia is fine

I feel the QT is more dangerous than incorporating unquarentined fish

PLEASE ANY SUGGESTIONS

Why are you concerned about Nitrates? Fish can easily handle Nitrates, so don't worry. Just leave the tank alone, try not to feed that much and do water changes if you see the ammonia starting to increase. When doing water changes try and vacuum the junk and uneaten food off the bottom.

No it's more dangerous to put a fish, that maybe carrying something, into your main tank and take a chance of killing all your fish.
