Friday Masterswimmer came over and helpe dme move my four fish and corals into a bigger tank. The fish now have TONS of LR to hide in.

new tank had cycled nicely, the LR is from my old tank (four years old at least)...

Anyway, the thing is that of the four fish (redlip blenny, yellow tang, maroon clown and royal gramma), only the blenny and the tang are eating

The clown comes out but hides when I offer food...

and the royal gramma has shoved himself up in a piece of rock and has not come out since Friday when Masterswimmer helped me put everything in the new tank... I can see him in there - he moves a bit, and his color is great, but he will not come out.

I'm not really worried about anybody but the royal gramma.

How long can he go w/o food? How long till I worry?

Any advice?

Hello Ms. Daisy. It's only been 3 days in hiding. Besides, that whale, I mean Royal Gramma has enough fat stores to last at least a week. I've never seen a RG that big.

I'm guessing he's protecting his new territory. Doesn't want to chance anybody squatting in his new digs ;)

You need to realize that you just changed his whole world and he needs time to get adjusted. When he's hungry he'll come out. He may even be coming out when the lights go off. More important make sure your tank is ok and you don't get any spikes. That would be more of a problem than the fish not coming out.

Try to find a picture of a hot RG female somewhere and tape it showing into the tank to entice him to come out. :biglaugh: Royal Gamma's Gone Wild! :Yikes:

On a serious note, you just mixed up his whole crib. He needs to re-establish his territory like Russ and marrone said. He has to get all the pictures on the wall and the big screen where he wants it along with packing the fridge back up with beer.

Okay, you all crack me up. too funny.

thanks, russ and all - I am a little touchy when everything in the world I create for my charges is not perfect... (as you may have already figured out...)

:)

Truth is, Comet (the RG) is a fat beast (nearly as big as my four-year old maroon clown), so I figured he's probably just not hungry enough to venture out...

HO!

Comet is OUT!!!! :)

The beast awakens!!!!!!!

For those of you who have never met Comet, he really is quite a large RG... And looking pretty good for having spent the last 6 months in a 20-gal tank with three other full-size fish, a bunch of rocks and soft corals with lousy lights and some power heads.

I would never set up such a tank on purpose - this tank was the emergency save when the "real" tank broke while I was in Israel. The saga is finally over. The new tank is set up, the occupants of the old tank are all safely stowed in the new, and the only loss was the sand bed, which I am officially OVER.

:)

The funny thing is how the small tank was some sort of bonding experience for the tang and the maroon clown - they travel the tank together. I really don't think they're ever more than a few inches away from each other. It's so funny. The tang just follows the clown around. It makes me laugh.

...I think they don't realize they're not supposed to be best buddies. Funny how animals find such important companionship with unlikely partners...

Reefman --

You are TOOOO funny!!! You mean swimmer and I can't just talk on this thread about a tank we both have seen and the rest of you haven't? :)

Okay... so some pix.... will come soon!

Truth is, Comet's coloring is so-so - he looks a little stressed out. He's not getting worse, so that's good... It's just that the color is not constant through the purple - there are places where it just looks kind of duller. Everyone else look sso great, though, and the red mushrooms are bigger than they've EVER been - like ever!!!!

I promise, pix soon.

This is funny because Wingo has a maroon clown and a tang that live in the same cave together.

okay - here are pix of the tank as it is now and one of the unlikely friends...

Comet, of course, was hiding - the second the camera comes out, the tang and clown mug and everyone else hides....

UGH!

Oh well. but you can see the full tank, side shot (corals in the back, thanks swimmer! - good idea for side viewing) and my two favorite attractions - the black sponge (w/orange and other stuff in/around it) and my favorite piece of LR - a skeleton I picked up in Florida many years ago (already dead) covered now with corraline, yellow sponge and (SCOURGE) APTASIA AND GREEN BUBBLE ALGAE!!!!!

argh.

will try to take pix of comet as the day goes on.

daisy, looks great. That black sponge is sweet. Once your fuge is online, I'd say let it mature awhile, then go for that mandarin ;)

I see a little room left for some nice LPS in there too
