in the for what its worth category...

i bought a maroon clown from autoponicz couple weeks ago. there was a fair amount of speculation about how its aggressive reputation would impact the rest of the tank.

i've got a true perc, 3 scott damsels, 2 clown goby, and a couple of other fish in a 75 gal reef tank.

short story is that the maroon got picked on for a couple days but ever since then, its been pretty normal. the maroon never tried to bullyl its way into the frogspawn hosting my perc or any of the other favored spots. it was actually the smaller of my 2 gobies that was the real bully.

the maroon wound up fanning out a spot at the base of rock up against the glass as his base of operations.

the original FS thread had stories about aggressive maroons and not-so-aggressive maroons. so i was pretty concerned about adding this guy to my tank and was prepared to turn him over to LFS if things didnt go well.

when the maroon was gettin its butt kicked by the little yellow watchman goby, we were pretty surprised in the opposite direction

you're probably rite about the maroon clown being tough on new additions. i just thought it was worth a post to say it worked out

PS....and autoponicz was a mensch about the sale.

FWIW, I have a paired maroon, the bigger of the two (the female I guess) is the boss of my 450g tank with tangs and angels. My paired percular clowns are constantly bullied by her and find refuge at the upper corner of my tank. And the maroons were added after the percular.

Might be a problem when adding new additions.....though.

True. May OR may not. One of the biggest things I've learned is that fish do have personalities. If you have a semi-aggressive catagory fish, it might work out or it might not. Those compatability charts are helpful, but if you end up with one of the "with caution" fish, it's a total gamble.

Mixing clowns species

I advise against mixing clown species in a home aquarium. These fish have a territorial instinct to claim an area and bully anything that comes in it. Your percs/ocellaris will start to be bullyed worse and might face death.

I have only one maroon in my tank and he never bothers anyone. He does have a anenome to keep him company though.
He is one tough fish! I have had him for three years now and he survived been sucked up in the filter of my old 55 gal. He also was the only surviver of my ich outbreak. Lucky for him the anenome helped with the ich.

I have a 3.5" Maroon Clown in my 180 with Puffers, Triggers, and big Angel Fish and believe it or not he actually attacks my triggers and angelfish when they come near his corner.:sgrin:

Mine is going on 6 or 7 years old and does the same thing. I would not say he is an aggressive maroon but just dont come near his corner. They I can see him being aggressive if he was in a small tank though. The thing that he does is he loves to moves things. So every new rock I have to make sure that it is on well supported. They are movers so it he does not like somthing were I put it he will move it him self. So Just keep in mind to glue all corals down. Mine is almost 4" now.

i have my maroon clown from the beginning of my saltwater hobby. I got him from craigslist. This guy had him in a breeder tank for 3 months. Can you belive it the fish didnt even have enought room to turn around. i took her from him and its been 15 months later and the fish has survived my whole experience with the saltwater tank. Its really a hardy fish. I once brought a firefish and she swallowed it, there went 20 bucks. he didnt eat him but the maroon clownfish killed the fire fish. I didnt have an anenome for a while damn she was making a big mess in the tank. Now she is busy in the anenome. but she still knocks things over or picks things up with her mouth and moves it from one side of the tank to the other. She is about 4 inches long.
