Hey Everyone,

Happy new year, hope all is well with everyone. It's been a while since I've posted, I'm starting to get my 125 gal. tank up and running for the new year and would like some suggestions on stocking the tank.
I want it to be an aggresive tank since I already have a 90 gal. reef tank. One fish I know I want is a snowflake eel....that's all i have listed for now.

I was going to put MH lights for the tank but don't think I really need them for a fish w/ live rock tank. suggestions on lighting would help too.

Thanks
Bueller

PC lights are fine. Don't spend a lot of $ buying or running MH's for FOLR.

You have SO many choices
  • triggers (clown, black durgeon, niger)
  • lion
  • large angel
  • Puffers (golden, dogface, etc)
  • Argus grouper
  • Clown or Sohal tang
Choices are endless
Pick one more "must have" fish. That might help dictate the rest of your stock list.

Bueller,

I have sohals due in with a big Red Sea shipment, first week of Feb.

Sohal would need to be your only tang. Other than that, you are still wide open. You might consider going to the more aggressive side.

Snowflake eel
Sohal tang
Clown Trigger
Large Lion

Would make an awesome tank. If you have kick-a$$ filtration, you could probably add a large angel as well. One of the stronger ones (emperor, macalocious, queen)

Thanks Mike,

That sounds like a plan. Should the Sohal be put in last or it doesn't matter. and I really want a snowflake but in you opinion chances are he's jumping out of the tank....Pain in the A$$

I build a sump/refuge out of a 55 gal...Should be good enough filtration and a closed loop system...Almost done with that.

never, i've never had a problem with any fish jumping. The eel pretty much lived on the powerhead and watched down on the tank, and would scurry thru the rock work when he saw the food

Bueller, think twice, and then again about having a snowfalke with out a top. My snowflake kept escaping down the U tubes into the sump every chance it got, and this was a tank with a top. They will squeeze through any tiny little hole they find. I finally got tired if fishing mine out of the sump, and left it down there until it got big and fat and I knew that it could not fit through the overflow box. Ribbons, ghost eels, and the like will always end up escaping. When I moved I lost all of my sea animals, so I'm starting over. Now my fowlr has a lion, niger trigger, large banana eel, dog face puffer, I might add one more. No problems with the banana eel, but my tank is covered. Lighting for a fowlr does not matter, I have a regular florescent hood that I only turn on in the evening for our viewing pleasure. Done it this way for years. Good luck
