mighty mike think about it. not meanign to be an insult. they achieve these colors in there natural habitat. they are in captivity, while most of us do our best to replicate the natural sea in own reefs, it still is limited unlike the ocean. but hey JF looks real sweet set up. what do you have underneath? that is where the equipment junkies love to see here. great job and good luck with your emperator

NYC all I have right now is a amiracle wet/dry. the return pump is a pan world can't remember the model and a Corallife 65 skimmer. I'm going to upgrade the skimmer and I will add a 20 gallon fuge as soon as the holidays are over.

I decided on the fish. Tell me what you guys think.
A group of 6 lyretail anthias, one snowflake eel, a tang (undecided), an angel and golden butterfly.

Skip the anthias as they're tough to keep and the Golden butterfly(Semi Lavarus) shouldn't be keep with an eel, also you would need to get a larger tank as they do get large and need a tank that's at least 6'. You really shouldn't add any Butterfly fish until your tank is well established.

I remove my fuge dwelling damsel and put him in the tank on Monday. The poor think was so use to my fuge that he didn't know what to do with all the space.

I also got a tiny snowflake eel. I bought him today. My son named him Tony.
Here he is acclimating and trying to go after the damsel.

Is it that particular anthia? Because I have had barlett anthias in my reef for about a year and a half.

I big tank will be coming by the end of the year if not by the summer.

Thanks for the info guys. Keep them coming. I would like this to be as successful as my reef. :D

In general most anthias don't make it and specially if you're planning on trying to keep a school of them.

These very small SF eels have horrible survival rates and most die from starvation. You need to make sure he get feed 4 times a week with quality vitamin enriched food.

I would say that most SW fish gain little nutrients from feeding them freshwater fish, so you may look at a SW alternative food like silversides.

Chief right feeding eels, triggers, groupers and lion fish gupplies and goldfish aren't good for them. You want to feed your eel a variety of different things like silverside, clams, shrimp, fish(like grouper, salmon), squid.

As for vitamins try Vita-Chem and some of the Kent products. As long as it's a multi-type vitamin it should be good, just soak the food in it before feeding.

Update:

The eel is taking silverside, krill, mysis, and pods that it catches.

Funny antics between the eel and the damsel.
The other night I was feeding the eel and the damsel darted in between the tweezer and the eel and he stole the piece of krill. The eel seem to get really agitated and started chasing the damsel around the entire tank until the damsel drops the krill. This happens every time I'm feeding the eel. I thought I share with you guysbecause I found it pretty amusing. :)

Thanks for looking,
Jose

Thanks Marrone you have been very helpful.

Any other grouping fish that you would recommend?

i don't know much about eels but seeing you have a small damsel w/ him then i recommend chromis but there is a small chance the damsel might bully the chromis: blue/green, blue reef chromis or vanderbilts(my choice for my 120g)

Latest addition to the reef.
6_P1235976_1.jpg

I have been feeding the following to the eel and fish.
Krill
Frozen Clam
Mysis
Silverside
Formula 1 flakes
Formula 2 flakes
Angel ate all the sponges off my rocks.
I open a fresh clam once a week and put it in the tank for a few hours. The angel picks at it and the eel latches on and goes into a spinning motion like the alligators until it rips pieces off.

Maintenance: I do a 10% weekly water change. I'm thinking about steping it up to twice a week.
The parameters are
Amonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 10 (adding macro algea to help control this)
PH: 8.2
SG: 1.025
