Okay, so i don't know WTF happened. One day there was a small white patch in my female clowns eye. I thought nothing of it. The next day the eye looked like it was popping out of the socket. Today it looks even worse. I was trying to see if it starts to recede. At this point though, i am pretty sure i would need to quarantine and treat separately.

I believe it's popeye. But i thought it might be caused by a cut or something since it was one eye. What have you guys used to treat your fish? This is the first time ever i have experienced this. I feel so bad for her, and i need to do something fast. Please recommend your medicine of choice.

Thanks.

Thanks T.

I will begin feeding frozen with garlic tomorrow. I don't think diet is the cause because i feed a good variety. Hope the garlic helps.

How bad did the eye get? I feel like her eye is about to pop out.

Jim, How long after you noticed the eye did you begin to treat? And how long did it take after you started feeding garlic for the eye to recede?

What is the most common cause of this thing?

Bulged eye can be caused by several stresses: injury to the eye and bacterial infections are the primary culprits. Oftentimes, netting a fish can cause popeye from direct injury with the net, or because of bacteria on the net itself. When at all possible, avoid using nets, and always keep fish in water. If you are going to use a net, however, sterilize it before use and place some slime coat on it just before you capture the fish.
