Here some what of a simple question but I'm not too sure about the answer.

This question is about Large size angels.
when purchasing an angel it comes in many sizes: (sm,med, lrg, xlg) and also juv. and adult. Here's the question if I purchase a small adult will this fish grow into a large size adult? or will this fish stay at that size for it's entire life?

or

Do i have to purchase a lrg Juv. and let it change into a lrg. adult.

i have no i dea what you are asking. but i will try to help. most pygmy angels will not grow larger than 4-6".

now larger angels, can get very big. if you buy a juv large it will get bigger w/ time and proper nutrition.

Depending on the angel is will grow into an adult over time and get quite large. What you will see is that the adult colors will not be as brilliant as if you got a full adult to start with. Some of the smaller large angels, like Passers, Asfur, and Majestic have slower growth rate and wouldn't get as large as some of the other larger angels.

As for changing from a Juv to an Adult, it all depends on the angel. Some change over very fast while others take quite some time and some never make the full change.

A 120gal, 4' tank, is on the small size for most of the larger angels. YOu probably want to look at the mid size angels. Also don't forget the larger angels need a lot of food and you need to make sure they have a good amount of algae as they like to graze.

Mike,

i didn't know that.

Marrone,
I will definetly take into cosideration, of not getting a Large - xlarge angel.

Thanks,
Peter

Juv will usually change into adults, the thing is some don't change all the way leaving them with adult colors but some juv markings.
Others will change into the sub-adult stage, some angels have juv, sub-adult and adult stages, but not into the final adult colors, Passer angels are big in this way. Some angel change fast while others can take quite awhile to change. A lot depends on the size of the tank, food and water quailty.

Remember these angels live quite a long time, easily 15-20+ years, compare to the smaller angels which live anywhere from 2 - 5 years.

The thing is if you want an angel, with full adult colors, you should get an adult.
