this is randys seahorse I just from kris tonight, thanks to kasei for dropping him off.

I was wondering if his belly looked a bit thin, or is this the way they are?

Are you putting said seahorse in your 120 gallon system?

Because they require low flow systems. Plus lots of mysis shrimp running around the tank, and vibrance supplemented food (if they eat at all). Additionally having any fish tank mates is a no-no since they can't compete for food quick enough against other fish.

Sorry for the sermon.

i'm going to be changing the system around. if I can keep the seahorse in it I will. otherwise it will go into the 15 gallon tank which I will plumb into the main tank.

Good luck. I regret my experience with seahorses. I did keep them for 2 years straight, two mated pairs, however the work involved was over the top. Unfortunately the big black out killed them, :( .

But, I'm happy to be free of the burden. They are by far one of the most demanding fish out there.

I read the information on Drako Marine's site, the people who bred this seahorse they claim,
We do not see a difference between maintaining a clownfish or a seahorse. Like other marine fish in captivity, seahorses will need your time, dedication and the attention they deserve.

what did you find in your experience made them difficult to keep?

i think he still has a few in his tank. definately no low flow in there, and he's had them for a while. definately not the only fish in the tank either....
i think in his case it has to do with alot of luck and all of his skill to keep them happy.

i have had two female reidi for several months and they seem to be quite happy. they even changed from black, to yellow w/ red dots and white. i know a couple of months doesn't say much but i have noticed a few things:

seahorse can tolerate more flow than given credit for(as informed by randy)

you can have other fish in w/ them. i keep slow moving peaceful fish like a pygmy hawk and some gobies.

i make sure to feed twice a day(luckily mine accept prepared foods). i'm sure if they see pods they will go hunting for them also.

jonathan- i think that pony will do great in the 15g. it would look so cool in that anthelia forest.

-all the best
