Hey Duke, I have 5 or 6 clams with my Copperband Butterfly and he never touches them except to pick off little bits of food off the shell if one of the fish misses a morsel. or something like that. Never touches the mantle or anything. He's a very gentle fish. So I think you're safe.

The one thing I'd worry about though is if you are in the habit of feeding your CBB any kind of clam meat or steamer clams on the half shell or something like that. I know some people do that with CBB's to entice them to eat. I would imagine that if your CBB is used to eating dead clams on the shell...he might think a pretty and $ Maxima might also be dinner. My CBB eats live blackworms (his favorite), spirulina brine, mysis (sometimes) and the like. I've never fed mussels, steamers etc. Live blackworms was all he needed to learn to eat frozen.

PS - if you're buying a clam - Dr. Mac all the way man. Pacific East has the best clams around, hands down. He's also having a sale right now and the cultured maximas are crazy pretty. I do not work for him, I just like the guy and his clams. :thrash:

PPS - my buddy also has a bigger Copperband with his 3 foot long - yes I said feet - tridacnid gigas clam, and has no problems as well. Both are happy and healthy.
