Really, so is aquaria not all it's cracked up to be? I have heard the same about house of fins. What do you recommend as far as good shops? Being in greenwich the convenience was nice but would rather have fish that live longer?

Well, I don't think there is enough info to blame them for your fish dying... But, regardless of that, I don't think that they are 'all that'...

BTW with that 'Aston' screen name, do you work for Miller?

Yeah I work for miller. One of my friends who works with me said he's met you before. As far as fish stores go any other recommendations? I've become to like aquaria but if their rep is sick fish I'm not too keen on that.

I thought so... There are a couple reefers there... Is Donny still at Ferrari?

If you take a ride to Maximum Reefs in Yonkers, Ralph is owner, they have 5x as many fish at about 1/3 the price!
Have you gone up to Exotic Fish in Milford...owner's name is Bob.

Haven't been to either but willing to look. Also thinking of checking out complete aquarium in Bedford hills. Yes Donny still works with us as Ferrari service manager. He recommended complete aquarium. I'll check out the other places though. 1/3 the price sounds nice though.

Are both tangs dead or one of them is still alive but just without color. I assume you did not keep the body of the dead one, correct? Try your very best to scan for holes in fish body-it could be "lace" flesh eating pods that latch on the fish and eat its way into the fish. Rare in aquarium but never the less worth a shot in checking for that.

Body color change while alive could mean stress from fear and or even poison. I lost a rabbit fish many years back after it swallowed a glob of chemical. It turned black and acted abnormal before it died.

The tomini is dead. The hippo is on its last leg, most likely done the am. Both out of the aquarium and yes I saved both fish doe examination. I will scan both looking for holes. The other fish are doing well, could they be safe from that because it latched to the tangs?

You should isolate the hippo no matter what in case the unlikely did happened and it's a flesh eating pod and that it is still in the hippo but not in the tank.

Thanks albano and trini. I will check out max reefs. To answer aqua pro builders, I got the tomini out and the hippo as quickly and isolated both then did the 50% water change and rinsed out my poly filters etc. The hippo died this morning, complete loss of coloration but not as ugly as the tomini, though the tomini may have been nibbled on before i got him out. I'm going to examine both fish and have the fish store do the same and monitor the aquarium very closely.

Well have you done any water testing since..?
I will probably have to say if the Tomini tang looked like it got burned, it's probably because there was some sort of spike in ammonia or bacterial.

Did you add anything into the tank prior to this happening? How old is this tank?

Skene. Yes ive done water tests since. I mentioned earlier in the post. All parameters were good. I did not add anything to the tank prior to the fast downfall. Fed like usual. The only thing i may be thinking is my son put his hand in( after rinsing with hot water) to have the cleaner shrimp hang on his hand and may have introduced something then. Other than that nothing unusual. Tanks been running maybe 2 months. Still new to the saltwater hobby.
d5332. I have stopped adding fish and wont add any until i do a couple more big water changes and change my filters.

I was there yesterday... As usual, they had a number of sick/ dead fish in their tanks... For the prices they charge, the customers should not be seeing that.
For the record, same thing at House of Fins!
I dont think that this is a fair assessment of either store. I am frequently (almost weekly) at all the stores between Stratford CT and Yonkers NY and both of those stores do a good job of keeping their tanks free of sick and dead fish.
