Anyone here ever keep mudskippers? They're ugly but really unique and since I will have space for a 20 or 29 ontop of a stand that will be holding my corn snake on the bottom, I thought to give them a try. Any advice or setup photos?
I was walking in china town to a LPS I like to visit and seen one of the vendors selling mudskippers for food right next to some Saltwater Parrot fish and some crab lets. The mudskippers were alive at the low low price of $10 a pound. It doesn't help you much sorry...but here's a site that sells mudskippers and I've purchased some fish as well as clams from him...check it out http://www.franksaquarium.com/brackishwater_fish_farm.htm
I know Frank from a freshwater yahoo group and most likely will be getting any mudskippers from him. I was interested to see setups that have been used successfully though. I might just go check out Chinatown anyway for the fun of it.
u can probabably get em (much cheaper than 16$ each) on a sidewalk seafood venders in chinatown. althought they r super tough(i use to catch them back in HK when i was like 7)in streams. they walk right outa water to escape. their pectorial fins r strong. they can tolerate swallow muddy waters n sandy bottom. but i think they require cool water temp.(70-75) n a bigger tank than 29g.
Yea I like walking around in china town I do it ever Fri. I was actually looking for a mantis shrimp and figured I would ask a few of the vendors that sell seafood if they have/get any. but I dont think they really understood what I was talking about. But besides the mudskippers the first coolest thing I've seen being sold there was Queen Parrot fish! they were about 2 feet each. Franksaquarium is a pretty good site, I purchased some freshwater clams and snails from him a few months ago. I'm pretty sure if you email him he could give you some good info on a proper setup for them. The ones he sells has nice colors the ones in china town were brown and about 4 inches. The only shop that had them was on Mott St.
I dont know what type they were selling in CT, but Frank sells Indian and Thai, among other species, which only get to about 10 cm. so I can probably put a small group in a 29. I have been able to get info from his website and some others on their care but I was curious to see some setups to get an idea of what to do with mine.
