A varied and healthy diet.
Keep it eating and dont stress the fish.
A large well established tank with great water quality.

The QT will only work when you first get the fish.
Unless you QT everything after that it is useless.

A good diet and water quality will help against erosion but not against a fish getting Ich or fighting it off, as health fish do die from Ich. The same with stress. QT fish, corals and LT before they go into your tank is the way to go, and it can be done.

You will need to QT coral also.
As this could have come from a tank with fish having ich.
The QT for this would be 2 months.
It is not enough to QT just the fish as LR and coral going into the tank is a possible vector for ich.

Yes, you will need to QT your corals, and any LR that you happen to buy too. You'll find a lot of people get Ich and can't figure out why, especially since they haven't added any fish in a long time, and it turns out that they've gone corals or LR from someone tank that has had Ich in their tank. As I posted in the other thread, I rinse off all my corals and scrub off the rock that they're mount on before I place them into a QT. I then change the water completely each day, which I also rinse and scrub the corals even more. This is not a full 2 month QT but it has worked very well for me.

isolate the fish (all the fish) and treat it with copper .
Two proven methods that treat ich are copper and hyposalinity. none of the itch medication out on there work or proven to treat ich .

while treating your hippo, let your display tank fallow for 5-6 weeks until all the itch to die off.
