I have been dreading this thread for days now but I knew it had to be asked.

About a week ago I brought home a firefish and did not QT it. After hiding in the rocks for a day or two, each day it comes out more and more and is starting to eat its share of food. Heres the concern,

The day I put it in the tank, I noticed ONE white spec on its body. I have had a clown with ich before and it looked similar. I have been closely watching the fish and it seems fine and getting used to the tank great. No signs of stress or more visible signs of progression. The spot is still there though.

What do you guys suggest? take it out and QT it? If there is any danger, has the damage been done already? Looking for help on what I can do at this point in time to make sure my clowns dont get sick...

lesson learned by the way

That is one fish you don't really QT . Firefish don't have scale like other fish to get ick. I won't worry. Firefish I always threw right in tank. If you see spot on him it will go away. And if your clown is eating . Even if a spot you see. Doesn't mean his own immune can fight it off. I feed a little garlic added to they food and vitamins if you feel worried.

Where did you hear that? Fish get ich on their eyes, there are no scales there. I wouldn't quatantine it at this point you might stress it more. Feed several times a day and keep the water clean...

im moving in a month or two so as long as nothing progresses ill wait untill i break down the tank and ill set him up in a QT in the new house. the move is going to stress it out so I dont see it being wise to put it back into the display at the new house.

The problem with qt in a month is that if the ich goes through a cycle then the spores will be in the tank. If it is infected then going fallow for at least 12-14 weeks will ensure that there is no ich.

You may not have ich at all so hard to say unless you know what you have.

F that! Qt, qt, qt, qt qt.. And so on
Why should he QT one fish with ich and not the others??? If one fish have ich the whole tank have ich. Ich is not as unforgiving as Brooklynella relax. Alot of people have ich in their tanks and don't even know.

the other 3 fish in the tank show no signs at all of ich, they have never been better actually, my clowns hosted my BTA. so you guys suggest I dont add any of my fish into the new display and QT them all?

man that seems like a crap load of work, but whatever is best.

Let me make it less confusing i wouldn't QT them, it doesn't seem like a serious outbrake. I'm sticking to what i posted earlier. Qt next time though...

Either qt all and leave tank fallow, or none since if one fish has it they all do but may not be showing....most people with salt water tanks have ich unless you literally qt everything that goes into your tank including LR, LS, Frags, Nems....ich larvae and eggs may cling onto them

Many people think they don't have ich in their systems because fish don't show signs due to being in a stress free, healthy environment, and eating well.....ich is really only shown on sick or stressed fish, ich (most strains) isn't aggressive enough to kill a fish alone, usually the fish has to have something wrong with it for it to show

Well go educate yourself on ich.. It has a life cycle.. So depends on life cycle of the ich and what stage it's in...
I already know genius, you on the other hand not so sure. The way you answered my question and your posts i can tell you don't know a damn thing.

And some fish can be pretty hardy against ich, but not tangs as we know

My tangs handle it fine...the last time they showed signs were during the black out from sandy...as long as any fish is eating healthy with no other illnesses and in a stress free environment they'll be fine

The case with tangs is that they stress very easily since many hobbyist have them in undersized tanks, and even if they aren't in an undersized tank some tangs can't handle the change from open water swimming to now swimming in a small glass box
