Hi my name is Andrew and am fairly new to the SW world. My brother got me intersted and more involved into it and have been browsing the forums for a bit of a while now.:Lurking:

But before I get this thread tagged as an introduction I have a question. I have a 180G AGA in the process of completion. It's primarily a trigger tank (more doscile versions) and the Hawaiian Black Triggerfish has caught my attention. Despite not being able to find them online for sale, nor have I seen one in any lfs so far, I cannot really find any other information regarding them.

One website almost hinted that they are under some sort of restriction perhaps as they didn't plan on having them available till 2013. Also most websites are fairly equal in terms of the information provided on their eatting habits etc.

Has anyone here ever owned one, or knows someone who owns one so they can share some information? Also has anyone seen one available or know if there are restrictions/regulations on obtaining this specific species? Any information is greatly appreciated.

You're talking about the Black Durgen Triiger, I've seen them both online and in LFS, do a search and you'll find some for sale. The only reason you mayn't find them for sale at LFS is because when they're in the LFS they're usually stress somewhat, which results in them looking very dark, almost black, which is a turn off to some people.

They do get very large, so you need a good size tank to house one. They're on the shy size, and will hide behind the rocks and corals quite a bite.

Ah ok yes they are also known as the Black Durgeon. Typically when I have seen them though they are on the darker side, which is kind of one of the selling points for me, even though I know their bodies aren't really a black color. Searching online even revealed some of them being a very light color, but still with the black fins and the white lines on top and bottom fins. I hit the two Pets Warehouse locations on LI but didn't see any on that day. Will have to try to keep a lookout for some since I am still kind of weary of ordering online unless I know what they look like. Thanks for the info.
