I thought that too but the head looks too blunt to be an evansi.

I'm fairly certain it is Pseudanthias evansi. The shape front of the head is highly variable depending on locale.

Most if not all anthias are pretty variable depending on locale but the only part of that fish that vaguely resembles an evansi is the color pattern and even that is off. The pics are pretty blurry though and you can't see if there is any detail in the pattern. At this point I would even say it sort of looks like a ventralis.

if you ordered it from LA I've read a few threads where they mixed in Evansi with other anthias orders by mistake...

No I got it from a local store here in Pa, I'll try to get a better pic. No matter what it is, looks sharp.
