does anyone have experience with large nests hatching out over several days.

I have had 2 nights of hatch out before, but this will be night four with at least 50 eggs still looking viable and ready to hatch.

question really is about the fry.

are first night hatchers or last night hatchers more healthy

are these late bloomers in better condition. or is it the early hatch fry since some of them are 3 days on roti's already.

should I bother to harvest this last night of fry? If I did would need to rear them in another tank, since Ill be adding bbs in another day or 2, I don't want them to all choke out on food that's to big.:scratchch

I have never expeirenced this, Most of my breeding pairs would hatch in one night. Any left overs were i assumed cleaning up by the clown.

How long is it between clutches?

Its the weirdest thing. the eggs hatch usually all at once 9-10th night. they will re-spawn in 3 days most times, but if i mess with em it can go 5days.

I just ignored these variables , thinking its something im doing. but to see eggs hatch out for 3 nights in a row and i can see they will go again 4th night. this i haven't see.

What kinda clowns? lol

How big of a clutch? Usually my large akinydnos pair would lay like 200 - 500 eggs and whatever didnt hatch after the 9 days was cleaned up before they set up another clutch.

The only way you can really tell who is healthy and who is not is to raise them and see if you notice any differences between the batches.

My guess is that if its a huge clutch she may laying the eggs in spurts and that is making the gestation period longer for some.

Most of mine hatch in one night but occasionally they spread to two nights. Usually 1st night got most of them out. The 2nd night only has a few. There was 1 occasion that only 5 hatched 1st night and the rest hatched on the 2nd. My latest batch was quite unusual for mine. Half hatched the 1st night and the rest on the 2nd.

When they do spread to 2 nights, by 2nd night, their egg yolks are almost gone. Those larvae tends to have a higher fatality rate since they have 1 less day of reserve energy to learn to hunt for food. In your case, I would just let the rest go after the 2nd day.

However, if they do survive pass 3 days, they should have mastered the hunting skill. They should be just as heathy as the other larvae/fish.

I was thinking first hatch also. since its the 4th evening im just gonna let these pass. I'm low of rots anyways.

I may snag em just to see what they look like hatching so late... day 14.

do you think if for some reason the femal was interupted and laid the rest of the nest the following night or ... man i just don't know 4 nights on one nest is crazyness
