Hey, MR crew, like many of you here, our SW tanks require water changes. My recent issue has become a steady source of water for water changes. Originally, we lived in Westchester County and have since moved to Staten Island; my LFS in Westchester would supply me w/ 5 gal buckets for water changes as I need them but since we moved, the cost associated with driving 1.5 hours up and 1.5 hours back plus tolls once a month is a lot. Plus, factor winter months and bad road conditions it makes it more feasible to purchase a RODI system.

I did google RODI home filters, but couldn't get a clear sense of what people are using- especially here in NY.

My aim is to be able to fill a 5 gal bucket with RODI water for water changes. Since we live in an apartment, I can not hardline the filter; is there a RODI filter system I can easily connect/ disconnect to the bathtub or kitchen faucet as needed ?

Any additional info or advantages like using a NY MR vendor instead of Amazon or Ebay; also, what seem to be the costs associated with replacing RODI filter media ? Would I need a declorinator ?

Thanks! :bagfish:

Buy one from melevsreef. It's $169 plus shipping and it's a 5-stage. Changing 5 gallons at a time the filter media will last you more than a year so you don't have to worry. I change mine every 6 months and I change 60 gallons per month.
Honestly I haven't seen them much cheaper than that.

Thanks for the reference! I do like the melevsreef http://www.melevsreef.com/rodi.html but would prefer all 4 canisters are held together.

I found this unit to be popular with reef keepers here on MR.

Is there a difference in quality between these two ? Is there a "favorite" or preferred RODI among MR reef keepers ?
