oceanic biocube skimmer

so I have the small oceanic bio cube skimmer that came with a 12G setup, seemed okay at first but now I noticed this brownish gunk build up around the wooden piece, anyone experienced this before? Seems to build up every week, stains the wood dark.

Yup, replace it. I use to replace my lime wood air stone in that skimmer every other week. That's why I upgraded the skimmer, the oceanic one pissed me off.

What other skimmer could I replace it with in a tank that size? That can fit in one of the back chambers.

Try this out, they are called the steve t cup, in conjunction with a 9002 or similar, it will provide what you need. At one time you could get a small skimmer which worked great on nano set ups (saphire skimmers ), however I believe the company is no longer in business. maybe the combination of a tunze with the posting will give you what you require. hope it helps, keep us posted :
