How often should actinic bulbs be replaced?
What is a good return pump for 100 gallon tank?
Is it possible for a pump to be too powerful for your overflow?

what kind of bulbs and yes you can have a pump that is to powerful you can put a ball valve in line of the return pump to slow it down

The bulbs say 96w actinic...the fixture is an odyssea. The bulbs have 2 slim tubes approx. 3 ft long.

Those are power compact bulbs and should be replaced evry 6-9 months depending on usage. The return pump usually goes by what your overflows are. How much gph does your overflow flow? You can usually get away with buying a pump thats 100 gph more than your overflow. HTH

Fishman...To be honest I don't know what my overflow rate is.Is there anything to look for that might give me an idea of this?
I was also told that one should try to turn over the water 10 times per hour, my take on this is that if you have 100 gal you should get a pump rated at least 1000 gal per hour (100x10=1000). Is this correct?
