Problem 1 - DI resin laying down as opposed to standing vertical is much less efficient. Water will channel its way through the path of least resistance.

oh ok thanks ill stand it up when i go home. should i stand them all vertically or leave just the r/o horizontal like the real units do.

You can build a RO/DI unit off bulkreef supply if you know what your doing. It runs about the same with filters as the air water ice typhoon though. They have a lifetime warranty on the RO unit so anytime you need anything fixed call them and they send out the parts to you.

IMO, its the service and warranty that make or break these units. I've seen the RO filters under 100$. I would save the 50$ extra and get the air water ice or the other one similarly priced. Don't buy that extra frag next time you go shopping and its paid for.

For filters you have bulk reef which comes out a few $$ cheaper with the refillable DI color change resin over air water ice.

You can store the water in a rubbermaid container if its in a cool dark place just check for algae film every once in a while in the container. For topping off the tank you don't need that canister they sell.

The only cartridge that should be left horizontal is the membrane. Everything else should be vertical.
