it seems PAR38 has 7 LED's while PAR30 has 5 LED's. At least from my observation from a couple sources, but I could be wrong.
It also looks like the link you gave has Edixeon LED's which is not what most people are using (Crees or SemiLED's) so I would do more research first to get a better comparison. The price isn't a big difference though.

I'll fully admit ...I really don't know a whole lot about these LED spot lights. There's not much information on the site either. The spotlights look nice to me because you can adjust them and it's easier to get a mix of colors.. IE: you can purchase one unit with 4 blue and 1 white, and another fixture with 3 blue and 2 white.. and angle them differently.

I just wiki'd the definition. The PAR number is nothing more then the diameter of the heatsink.
[table="head"]Designation|Nominal Dia. (inch)
PAR64|8
PAR56|7
PAR46|5.75
PAR38|4.75
PAR36|4.5
PAR30|3.75
PAR20|2.5
PAR16|2

I actually thought that "par38" was the name associated with the evilc's/nanocustoms lights

......those Rapids look really nice. I'll have to take some more time and research them... (does the reading and researching ever end?) :lol2:

It is fun though.

I just installed mine. The Boost PAR30 LEDs have great color and are somewhat powerful. The Rapid LED PAR38 LEDs are a beast and are far brighter. The CREE LEDs are obviously brighter than the Boost LEDs. Both have great colr and render it similarly. Here are the LEDs with the Rapid LED(black) in between two Boost LEDs:

some clarifications on the various PAR 30 & 38 bulbs

First off, in today's market Cree LEDs are better known, but whether you buy Evil's or a spotlight from BoostLED or RapidLED, you're still getting quality LEDs whatever the brand. The difference here in brightness is due to how many LEDs and how many watts they're running at.

The PAR30 (referring to the size of the fixture, not the PAR you measure in the tank) by BoostLED is a quality product (I had one till it fell in the water due to a collapsed light fixture), but the LEDs are not running at a full 3w, mostly because the smaller area means a smaller heatsink. 1 was fine for my 10 gallon tall hex, but just.

The PAR38 by Evil has 5 LEDs running at a full 3w, which is possible due to the larger size and therefore larger heatsink.

The PAR38 product by RapidLED uses 7 LEDs, but once again, due to space, are running closer to 2w each.

People will debate over it all, but it's all going to come down to your own judgement. Each vendor will be able to tell you how many of their product you will need to do the job, and probably all will be adequate. Obviously, Evil's will be brightest, but also costliest by a few $$ (and he gets really geeked on BRIGHT tanks). Your pick.

Just didn't want anymore misinformation spread about LED brands and whatnot.
