Guys once again Im asking for help or if you people have had these issues. I just spent $150 for all new filters for my RO/DI unit but before I changed them I took the filter apart and cleaned it. I installed all the filters and Im still at 117 PPM TDS. i Just dont get it. Im ready to just buy a new Spectra Pure unit for $550 but My wife may kill me.

117 is super high, sounds like your TDS meter is off, or you plumbed it into your sewage drain =0) Either way the most your tap should read is the high 70-80's.

Also, why spend 550$ for the spectrapure when air water ice and bulkreef both have them for less than half that and built better?

What is the canister on the top above the membrane? is it DI? Is the blue line the clean water?
It looks like you may have put it back together wrong. If I'm correct above, which I may not be because its hard to see in the pics, after carbon is going to DI, which means your membrane is before everything?

Try using others members tds meter to see if your is ready accurate
Oh and 150$ for filters is craaazy

+1 to all 3

I have a hand held TDS meter, and a inline TDS meter, I use the hand held once every few months to double check the accuracy of the inline TDS meter.

Best of luck

tap water @ 139 into first sediment filter then into the carbon filter out at 131 then into the membrane out at 5, into the DI filter out at 17 into the inline final stage DI filter out at 33.
Maybe my TDS is out of whack,

I'd definitely check the TDS meter itself. With all new filters your reading should be zero, especially after running it for an hour.
Can you take a sample to your LFS and have them do a reading? Just be careful the vessel you transport the water in not tainted with anything.

how do you measure the tds at each juncture?

the sediment filter doesn't really do much, neither does the carbon filter, most of the work is done by the membrane.....

what gpd is that membrane and its rejection rate?

for example-- 131 pre membrane going through a 75 gpd filmtech membrane with 98% rejection rate should have about 3 (131x.02) so 5 is not too far off.

now what do not make sense are your post di numbers....the di should make the reading zero....especially dual di's. but you have each di unit adding to the tds????

not familiar with the di units you have there but that may be an area to investigate.

btw inline tds meter and handheld model are supposed to be calibrated a little differently but their final values have about +/-10% difference---post membrane numbers of 4.5 and 5.5 are really that significant pre di.

i would
1. calibrate the tds meter/meters- if the number post di is still not zero then
2. check with another tds meter (borrow one and recalibrate it)-- your tds meter/meters may need replacement. if that is not the problem then
3. clean and reassemble di units- if that still yield a positive finding then
4. get a new one and buy you wife a new pair of shoes of equivalent value.....lol.

Ok an update,

TDS is at 4 now so Im good, Pessure going into filter is 70 psi and is city water, we just converted from well to city last March. Thank God.
What do you calibrate a TDS with? Distilled water? Its been so long I forgot, Duh

call up jim/russ @ saltwatercritters 845-610-3644 --they sell tds calibration fluid. shipped to your door in 2 days for a few bucks. some tds meter uses sodium chloride and some uses potassium chloride for calibration.
