I'm doing the plumbing on my tank and realized that I don't have a ton of space. So I might end up mounting the 1" SCWD I have horizontally. I'm using vinyl hoses to connect it on the ins and outs to avoid 90s.

Will this work? Can a SCWD be mounted horizontally and still be effective?

huh? :splitspin

I can't even picture this...the unit is supposed to sit horizontally. If you turn it in the other direction (assuming that is what you mean...) you will have water shooting up and out of the tank...??

Can you explain what you trying to do in a different way please?

Kathy... you may be thinking of the powerhead attachment. I think he means this guy:

I'm not sure if they will work as efficiently sideways since they work using water pressure. You'll likely be throwing off the device's balance. I've never used one personally, so this is all just guesses based on what I know about them. It may be fine.

Thanks Eric..no, not the Hydor rotator either...I usually look stuff up before I answer but my brain kept picturing a sea swirl..lol

I see no reason why it can't be mounted in a different orientation. I know someone who has disassembled these and the only thing inside is a few sets of tiny gears (that easily get stuck if so much as a grain of sand gets in there, so do attach it using hose clamps so you can take it off if it sticks).

I would test how it reacts to the unusual way you want to mount it before you start cutting hose & attaching things together.

Haha yea with all the equipment out there it's hard to keep track. I definitely think its a different way of mounting it but I would imagine the pressure will be the same. After all I have a mag 9.5 running through it so that is a ton of flow. I'm going to try it out this weekend. Just thought I would throw it out there in case someone has done the same and it blew up in their face.
Thanks
