Do any of you gravity feed your skimmers? I have a Bubble Magus 160 and am considering it. I am looking to cut down on the amount of pumps and electrical equipment I use on my tank. How would I be able to do this? How can I start the siphon to feed the skimmer?

Another thought I have is feeding my skimmer with my return pump if its strong enough to do both. I am using a Rio HF17 capable of over 1000gph @ 1foot of head. I currently have a straight run from the pump to the return total head 3.5/4.0ft. How can I do this, could I use a "T" to feed both w/o a problem? Help!!

Thanks

I have one tank w/ a gravity fed skimmer and another with just a normal in-sump skimmer.

It's difficult to compare the two because they are on different systems. Both do a great job. I think the most important thing is to get a good skimmer. How it gets fed is insignificant as long as it's doing it's job in my opinion.

Here's mine. It is gravity fed from my DT with about 25% going to fuge and 75% going to skimmer. You can see the black tubing looping around to the front of the skimmer.
