Hello all,

For some reason my metal halide ballast has been blowing the fuse in it on a daily basis. I keep replacing it, then turning it on and it's fine. I come home and it's blown again... Any ideas what is causing this, or where to start looking? Many thanks..

Did you try plugging into another outlet? sometimes lines are shared throughout the home and once the rated amperage is reached for that line, the breaker will trip.

Dont know the whole situation, but you should start with checking that all the wires are in good shape no lil nicks, no loose connections... Then you should check what else is on that line, what else doesnt work when that fuse goes out... Now if everything works and your MH dont you have narrowed it down to your ballast and you might need a new one... But it sounds strange that when you replace the fuse it works and doesnt go out instantly leading me to believe that something is being turned on that is overloading that circuit... Hope it helps you out

What fuse are you talking about? The Braker Box fuse? Run your tank lights at night when you're home so you know exactly what's going on.

so not sure what blew the original fuse, but after my package of 4 that i bought at Radio Shack blew one after the other, I went back to buy some more until I could fix it. I noticed there were two types - fast acting and slow blow. The first pack I bought were fast acting, so I bought a pack of slow blow and stuck it in. It's working now, so I'll see how long it lasts. I tried everything mentioned above- checked all the wires, placed it on a different socket, everything. Btw, the fuse is in the ballast, it's a 150w Cadlights stock fixture. Will keep you all updated, thanks for the feedback
