We were wondering..... currently we have a hamilton 3 x 250 watt mogul based fixture with 2 x 96 actinics. We purchased 2 x 250 watt hqi pendants that will end up going into a canopy with a 3rd pendant. But for now my question is can we just run the 2 pendants for a longer light cycle per day to make up for the 3rd bulb, If there are the same kelvin ? until we get the other pendant ? Or should we just wait ? Thanks for all opinions .

P.S. its a 6 ft 180rr mixed reef with just a 6 sps .

The wattage and amount of lights is more than fine for the 6' of tank they are over as long as the spread of the reflector on the pendants is able to cover the area. So you shouldn't have to worry about everything getting enough light with the light cycle but rather them not getting hit by the light because of a narrow spread on the pendants.

What type of pendants are they? It would help people in giving you better advice.

Im running 2x lumenarc mogul reflectors 250w under my hood with 2x 4' VHO suppliments and i have 5'6" of tank to cover, everything gets more than enough light. Plus i don't have to run a 3rd bulb in the system which saves alot of $$.

I here ya . Sorry . They are cheap 11x4x3 reflectors but hqi , and they are powered by ice cap 250 watt ballasts. I figured they were better then the old ballasts we had and the old fixture has no reflector. We plan to retro a set of 4 x t5s on a 660 ice cap for actinic lighting when we build the canopy. thanks for the reply.
