What type of reactors do you use for carbon/GFO/etc?

...So I just setup my BRS Media Reactor to run some of their "high grade" carbon... Not crazy about a few things with it, but I guess I can't complain. They're inexpensive, well built, and they look pretty sturdy.

Who else uses these? Also, does what about the Two Little Fishies or Kent reactors? I'm sure there are tons of people who use them.

juiceguy, those are nice reactors. (a bit out of my price range, lol) but nice.

How are the connections?

That's definitely one thing I don't like about the BRS reactor. I don't like the flex PVC piping they use.. I'd much prefer the tubing, but I don't really trust the flex tubing with the quick disconnect connections that they use.

they use 1/2" barb connections. i think once you get to over 20"h for reactors, the Geo is quite reasonable compared to PM or ATB

2 TLF Reactors. They leaked a bit until I threw some teflon tape on them. Now I just run tape around them when I change the media and they're perfect.

mine are 2ft tall and 4in round.. its a diy unit.. works well.. id prob wana make them out of accrylic tho.. makes them look nice but doesnt make a difference for functionality

My guess is that he used PVC for any non-acrylic reactor.

i used pvc.. i made a seperate media cartridge as an insert for them.. i use a manifold to feed the 2 reactors with a ball valve to vary each unit to proppr flow..

The quick diconnect makes cleaning easy. And the ball valve is easy to use.I find the hanging head convenient since I just mount them out of the way in the corner under stand.

I agree with you on the positives. I think I'm going to cut down the flex pvc so it fits better. It looks quite obnoxious in my sump right now.

i have a 1/2 in drain port on mine that is used to drain the cartriges, so it doesnt make a mess.. the inlet side(bottom) has a reuseable sponge as a pre filter the media is on top of that and then i use filter floss ontop inside the cartrige to prevent the media from getting tossed around too much.. i used nylon rod and nits to hod the media cartrige together and it then slips into the reactor chamber sits abt 3in off the bottom to allow for good even flow up through to media..

heres a pic of the cartrige, it has a wider lip at to bottom for a snug fit in the bottom of the chamber to ensure the water goes thu the media and not around it..

I have the BRS and the TLF reactors, and I like the BRS ones better. The TLF reactors tubes slip right off and are really loose. Though it gets kinda annoying to use the wrench to open the BRS reactor.

I had TLF reactors, then went to larger size ones such as Deltec and MRC. Ultimately, I sold all of the above for the BRS reactor. The ease of use in terms of changing the media is hands down convenient which over time results in keeping media changed.

Any AIO owners using small DIY reactors? I'm finding that my chemipure elite & purigen sandwich is restricting flow a bit. I'm thinking of making 2 small reactors that would fit in the back.

i started with tlf. everytime i changed media it as a problem with leaking. now i have BRS dual reactor. heavy duty wellbuilt and easy to tune. easy to change media because of cartridges

I like my TLF for GFO. It is low flow low pressure.
I tried making my own GFO reactor but without a see through design it is tough to get the flow adjusted just right.

If I were to run carbon then I would use something different.
