I just picked up 3-160w PacSun units with 60 degree optics. i am hoping this will cover my 82"x30"x27h 290gal tank but the units themselves can be daisy chained together so it is not a problem to add a fourth unit.

My initial impression is build quality is good, the units themselves weigh about 15lbs and are encased in an aluminum enclosure. the leds themselves are sealed behind a glass or plastic shield so no worries about splashing on the leds themselves. hookup was pretty straight forward, bluetooth connection was simple and software installation went smooth, i had the whole system up and running in about 15-20 minutes.

I still have to mount them over my tank as this seams my biggest dilemma because i am using a 3/4" electrical conduit pipe as a hanger so the 4 wire hanging kit for each unit will not look good with all the wires hanging out so i will need to make a frame to hold the units themselves.

Here are a few pics i snapped while firing them up:

nice Frank!!! I remember chatting with you at the pace frag swap about LED's. you weren't too sure about them then. what was the deciding factor?

oh i also own one of pacific 90 watt led systems and love it

i narrowed it down to Cree 3w leds and the only manufactures are AI and PacSun. AI was/is having production problems and orders were going to take 6-8 weeks. Pacsun was available with a better warranty, choice of optics and IMO a better overall color spectrum because of the mixture of blue and royal blue leds. AI produces a very "white" light that appears more 10k to me and i prefer a 14k light.

Also Coned raising there rates and my 1520w fixture is the "SUV" of fixtures

I just ordered 3 160w Cree from PAC sun myself for my 150 gal reef and should have them in a cpl weeks, at the advice of a fellow reefer here I stayed with the standerd optics which gives off 120 degree angle. I was told if I keep the lights 5-6" above the tank I should not have to much light over spill. My tank is only 18" wide.

here is my light rack........keeping fingers crossed that it holds, i used 1/8" aluminum which keeps the weight down, 2 coats rustoleum primer and 2 coats of satin black. i used rivets to hold it together.

i know u can hang them up but if u want to place them on top of the tank do i have to build some type of canopy

these lights are very powerful, i would not recommend putting them on top of the tank unless you run them at 50% power. i did check the par under 10" and i was getting close to 1500par

I did a sample Par measurement of my MH and the PacSun. First pic is MH with full measurements throughout the tank

Second pic is just one side of the tank under Leds. i have the units mounted at about 4" above the water line.

third pic is a full tank shot, i have ordered a fourth unit as 3 is not going to uniformly light the tank.
