im running 3x 250 watt mh on a 220. walked into my place yesterday to see that the temp in my house was 80 looked at temp gauge it was at 78.2. Im using 5x 4 inch fans that i installed in my canopy they are 12v dc fans from radio shack they kick ass thouh each ones 85cfm times 5 = 425cfm in a small 6 foot are. yes i do go threw about 3 to 5 gallons a day on evaporated water but beats a chiller, i also have central ac.

Al at all star aquarium (the lfs around here) has a fan mounted on the wall blowing across the surface of his two reef tanks. Its not an incredably powerful fan but he says that it lower the temp about 5 degrees when he has it on. There are no chillers on the tanks. I run t5's and im consider adding a small chiller (current makes a nano chiller). The ac where i live destroys my electric bill and i think the 300 bucks for a chiller will pay for itself by summers end.

Just checked:
Reef, after an hour of MH on 80.5 from 78.9 just the fan in the light fixture! Fans in the canopy will kick on if it goes to 82. Lights will shut off if it climbs to 85.
120 tank, VHO on for 6.5 hours is at 84 from 82 no fans.

put a fan on ur sump, i always remove my skimmer for the summer , i just make sure my phosban reactor is running and i change the carbon media every week with water changes weekly. i also have my lights come on at 6 instead of 4 .by 6 the sun is a little down which keeps my living room cooler

my tank is at 88! surprised anything is alive...

put a fan on the sump and shut the halides.

My tanks got up to 90 last night :sad2: I almost cried when I got home. It's down to 80 now after running the fan, adding ro/di (well, di) ice cubes and tilting the power heads up more. When I surveyed the damage last night I was sure all my sps had died, but to my surprise they had some pretty nice polyp extension today! Some of the lps are looking a little unhappy still, but definitely not dead. The only thing I'm really worried about is my chalice that I won at the swap raffle- trying to give it a little tlc. It's only been a day so hopefully it'll bounce back. I'm definitely ordering a few clip on fans and heat blocking curtains. (I'm sure I'm not the only one willing to shell out a good chunk of change for curtains if they'll keep my electric bill from doubling in the summer.)

My tank was at 88 and my colt leather has crouched over and a few sps are not openning and the one that hurt the most was my cleaner shrimp he was priceless to the family because my daughter loved him so much. I ran a fan in the sump but didnt help my much just 4 degrees lower which is still very high and its only a 45 gal
